Eagles Nest Educational Cottages
Due to NC class size legislation for grades K-3, more classrooms were needed. However, there was not a place INSIDE Hardin Park school for these newly mandated classes. Like many other school districts, we opted to purchase and install units exterior to the building. Two units were bought and installed behind Hardin Park school this past fall and became operational this winter.
Dicus Batting Facility
Capitalizing on substantial contributions from the County and the Will Dicus Foundation, this facility will be available to our men's baseball and women's softball teams this season. Middle school baseball and softball will also be able to utilize this facility. This was a great public-private collaboration.
Major Renovation & Construction
The Board of Education has put its money where its mouth is, so to speak. We directed the superintendent to hire an architectural firm to conduct a comprehensive facility study. While we have a fantastic high school facility (that is now 8 years old!), the other schools are aging rapidly. Instead of recycling the same, old, tired conversations, this board is getting answers with an eye to presenting concrete options to the county commissioners.
Ongoing Maintenance
Of course, ongoing maintenance is still needed. Our maintenance staff is top-notch.
About a year and a half ago, we conducted a study of all the school building roofs. And... they all have leaks. :(
Some are minor and some are more concerning. But now we have a prioritized plan in place and are making progress.
